Hornets Lose Late At #9 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Alabama State baseball team lost 8-7 at #9 Florida State Wednesday at Dick Howser Stadium.

The Hornets (13-10) took the lead in the third. With one out, Ruben Garcia singled through the left side. With two outs, P.J. Biocic was hit by a pitch, before Yamil Pagan drilled a 1-0 pitch over the left field wall for a 3-run homer, his second of the season, to give Alabama State a 3-0 lead.

After Florida State (20-6) tied the score at 3-3 in the fourth, the Hornets responded with four runs in the sixth. With one out, Waldyvan Estrada doubled down the right field line. P.J. Harris walked, before Hunter Allen singled to left field, scoring Estrada and moving Allen to second base. With two outs, Manny Rodriguez hit a 1-0 pitch over the left center field wall for a three-run homer, his first of the season, to give the Hornets a 7-3 lead.

Florida State responded with two runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings, and scored the go-ahead run in the eighth.

Estrada and Allen each had two hits, and Biocic extended his on-base streak to 19 straight games.

The Hornets return to action at home this weekend in a three-game series against Jackson State for Military Appreciation Weekend. All active, reserved and retired military personnel with ID are admitted free up to four people for Saturday's 1 p.m. doubleheader and Sunday's 1 p.m. game at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
