Lady Hornets visit the Crimson Tide on Tuesday

TUSCALOOSA, ALA.  –  Fresh off back-to-back conference victories this past weekend, the Alabama State volleyball team will switch off and test their merit in a nonconference match on the road Tuesday night at the Alabama Crimson Tide (6-8, 1-0 SEC) with first serve set for 7 p.m.

Rolling in with a little momentum, ASU (6-10, 2-0 SWAC) topped Alcorn State (25-17, 25-13, 25-13) and Mississippi Valley State (25-22, 25-13, 25-23) in straight sets fashion.

Chelsey Scott played a big role in both matches, compiling 27 kills over the two matches including a season-best 15 kills in Saturday's victory against the Devilettes.

The Crimson Tide defeated conference foe Mississippi State one week earlier this past Tuesday with a home victory after coming from behind to win in four sets (21-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-20).

Sophomore Kat Hutson led the Tide with 16 kills while Krystal Rivers added 11 kills and Brittany Thomas finished with 10 kills.

Sierra Wilson was the main facilitator with 44 assists.

The teams met in 2014 during ASU's hosted ISTAP Collegiate Cup 2 tournament last Sept. 13.

Alabama won in three sets behind Hutson and Thomas, who each had a dozen kills.

Amber Bennett led ASU with seven kills in the match.

The Lady Hornets' best set came in the first when it hit .263 as a team  and pushed Alabama with four straight points to tie the score at 15-15.

The Tide prevailed 25-19 to open the match.

Alabama widened the gap a bit more in the next two sets, winning 25-17 and 25-13.
