HOUSTON – The Alabama State football team has arrived in Houston in final preparations for tomorrow's game against Texas Southern. The 6:30 p.m. kickoff will be played at BBVA Compass Stadium.
The game features two of the top scoring defenses in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. TSU (2-2/1-2 SWAC) actually tops the conference at 23 points per game, while the Hornets (1-3/1-2 SWAC) are tied for second only giving up 26 points per game.
The Tigers have one of the top offenses in the conference averaging 32 points per game. Johnathan Bowen has started three of TSU's game at quarterback ad is sixth in the SWAC in passing and fifth in total offense averaging 201 yards per game. He may have the most exciting receiver in the league to throw the ball to in redshirt freshman Derrick Griffin.
Griffin stands an imposing 6'-7" and is averaging a league-leading 36.2 yards every time he catches the ball.
The Hornets are coming off their best game of the season in defeating Mississippi Valley 45-15.
Ellis Richardson led the Hornets offense running for three scores and throwing for two more.
Kourtney Berry continues to lead the Hornets defense. He not only leads ASU but leads the SWAC with 60 total stops over the first four games. His total tackles number and his average of 15 tackles per game is second in the FCS.
The game is the second in five days for both teams and is the second of four games in 20 days for the Hornets. The game is scheduled to be broadcast live on ESPNU. The game can also be heard live over the ASU Hornets Sports Network and also over HSRN Satellite Radio.
