Britney Wright's 24 points and
Tatyana Calhoun's double-double led Alabama State to a blowout win over Mississippi Valley State 100-50, Saturday afternoon at Dunn-Oliver Acadome for their first SWAC victory of the season. Â
Calhoun, a Montgomery native and Carver High School alumna, had a break-out performance for Alabama State (3-8, 1-2 SWAC).
The 6-foot-3 freshman center had career highs with 21 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

Two other players set season highs for points.
Ashanti Spencer scored 15 points, while
Kayla Stephens added 11 points.
Jasmine Peeples notched nine points and six rebounds in her 100th career game, becoming the 20th Lady Hornet to achieve this milestone in Alabama State history. Â
Though Mississippi Valley guard Christina Reed scored 25 points in the game, ASU's defense limited her to just six points over the last 14 minutes of the game. Â
Miracle Mayo's hook shot, assisted by Elisha Jones, pushed ASU to become the third SWAC women's team to reach the 100-point mark and first against a conference opponent this season.
The Lady Hornets never trailed, with their largest lead extending to 52 points, a season-best.
The Hornets shot a season-high 75% from the free throw line, 43% from the 3-point line and 55% from the field.
The Lady Hornets ended the first half on a 19-5 run over the last four minutes and led Mississippi Valley 47-25.
Alabama State had a well balanced offense, shooting 50% from both the field and 3-point line in the half.
ASU was effective in attacking Mississippi Valley in the paint, resulting into 22 trips to free-throw line converting 17.
Wright led with 11 points at the half. Spencer scored 10 points, while Stephens and Calhoun added nine and seven respectively.
The Lady Hornets limited Mississippi Valley to just 8-30 (26.7%) from the field, while turning the ball over 16 times.
Alabama State will only have a single day to rest, as they will return to the court on Monday at 5:30 p.m. when they face Arkansas-Pine Bluff in another highly anticipated SWAC match up at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
