Volleyball Concludes First Half of SWAC Play with Dig Pink Day

Following a well needed week off the Alabama State volleyball team will look to take advantage of home court this weekend as it will host the Alabama A&M Bulldogs for a Saturday morning matchup at Lockhart gym for Dig Pink day with 10 a.m. start.
 
The Lady Hornets (11-7, 8-0 SWAC) currently have four players with over 100 kills, including junior Briana Dorsey, who leads the team with 153 kills and 58 blocks that places her third in the league.  Krysta Meaderis has 142 kills and is fourth in the SWAC in total kills. Junior Ni'yesha Brown has 120 kills, while freshman Bayle Bennett has 118.
 
Alabama State is on a 10 game winning streak closing out their last games in Texas a week ago.  ASU defeated Texas Southern with a 3-1 win and finished the swing against Prairie View with a 3-0 victory.
 
The Bulldogs enters the weekend with a 5-16 overall record and 4-3 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference four games behind ASU, but in second place in the east division.  Ashundria McNeal leads the Bulldogs offense with 309 kills, while Riley Balsmeyer leads the team in assists with 474.
 
Fans are invited to join the Lady Hornets for dig pink day by wearing pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
