Alabama State battled to the finish in front of a spirited homecoming crowd of over 15,000 fans on Saturday, as Prairie View used a couple of big scoring plays to pull out a 24-17 Homecoming victory.
Trey Green (135 yds) and Jalen Morton (140 yds) combined threw for 275 yards and one touchdown by Green to lead the Panthers (4-2, 4-1 SWAC). Green's lone touchdown toss was for 24 yards to Joshua Simmons in the second quarter.
Hornet's senior quarterback
Quinterris Toppings accounted for 156 yards of offense along with one rushing touchdown for one yard to advance ASU 14-0 in the first quarter. Alabama State had a 17-7 lead heading into the locker rooms. Toppings was 17-for-30 for 129 yards and sacked twice.
Khalid Thomas rushed for 106 yards to move him to the sixth spot of all-time rushing leaders giving him career total yards of 2,043. Â He has now surpassed Isaiah Crowell (1,963) and Gene Blanchard (2,021).
Although the Hornets had a good promising lead, it started looking very bleak as Prairie put up a 37 yard field goal to give them a 17-17 tie sending the two teams into overtime.
Defensively, the trio of

Treyon Garnett,
Kourtney Berry topped ASU with seven total tackles apiece. Johnson had seven solo tackles, and three quarterback hurries. Garnett had four solo and three assisted tackles, with a force fumble. Berry was the opposite he had three solo and four assisted tackles with one breakup pass.
For the Panthers who also had three players to lead them as Will Skinner, Terrance Single and Marquice O'Lear each owned nine tackles apiece.Â
The Hornets will return to the New ASU Stadium on Saturday when they host Mississippi Valley State for Think Pink Day. The contest is set to begin a 2 p.m.
