Lady Hornets to host PVAMU, TSU

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State women's volleyball team returns home to Lockhart Gymnasium this weekend to take on SWAC opponents Prairie View A&M on Friday at 7 p.m. and Texas Southern on Saturday at 7 p.m.

It will be Military Appreciation Night on Friday followed by Black Out Night on Saturday. 

Fans are encouraged to wear their camouflaged military attire for Friday's match and to wear black shirts for Saturday's match. 

Alabama State (16-8 overall, 13-0 SWAC) keeps rolling along as the team has won 15 of its previous 16 matches and ranks second nationally in holding their opponents' team hitting percentage to just .134 on the season. 

The Lady Hornets also have proven to be the most consistent offensive group as it ranks atop of the SWAC in kills (11.73 per set), assists (10.93 per set), and aces (1.57 per set). 

ASU is second in the conference in team hitting percentage (.184 only behind Texas Southern's .196) and blocks (1.94 per set only behind TSU's 2.08 per set). 

Alabama State junior Briana Dorsey is having the most efficient season in the SWAC among regular rotational players with a .394 hitting percentage to lead the league. 

Dorsey also ranks fourth in the SWAC in kills per set (2.54) and has a team-high 206 kills for the season.

The Lady Panthers (8-14 overall, 7-5 SWAC) have one of the top attackers as Taylor Goudeau ranks second in the SWAC in kills per set (4.16) and has 187 kills on the season. 

The Lady Tigers' most efficient regular has been Nicole Robinson, who ranks fifth in hitting percentage (.229) for players with at least three attacks per set. 

ASU topped PVAMU in straight sets back on Oct. 4 at Prairie View.

Texas Southern (15-9 overall, 11-1 SWAC) comes in as the hottest team in the conference, having won six straight. 

Their only conference loss was a four-set defeat against ASU back on Oct. 3 in Houston.
