BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alabama State women's basketball team fell into a 14-point halftime deficit after a cold shooting start and the Lady Hornets fell 63-49 in a nonconference game at Samford on Wednesday night at the Pete Hanna Center.Â
The Lady Hornets (1-5) sputtered out of the gate, shooting just 19 percent from the floor as a team in the opening half and trailed 31-17 at the break.
ASU put together a solid fourth quarter by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 19-13.
Daniele Ewert was at the forefront of that run as the senior shot 5-of-8 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line and scored a team-high 16 points to go along with five rebounds.Â
Kayla Stephens had 12 points, four rebounds, two assists and a block while
Britney Wright scored 11 points with five rebounds, one steal and one block. However, Wright turned it over on four occasions.Â
Samford (3-4) shot a blistering 56 percent from the floor as a team for the game as Kassidy Blevins led the way with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting, three steals and two blocks.Â
Next, Alabama State will travel to Troy to take on the Trojans on Sunday at 3 p.m.
