BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On Thursday, the Southwestern Athletic Conference office released selections for the 2016 All-SWAC Football teams.

The teams recognize the most outstanding players from the season and were voted on by league head coaches and sports information directors from inside the conference.

The Alabama State football team was recognized with five selections to the teams with two players receiving First Team honors and three others receiving Second Team spots. 

Offensive lineman Sam Baptiste and senior linebacker Kourtney Berry were both named to the All-SWAC First Team.

Defensive back Bradley Street, defensive lineman Roderick Henderson, and senior running back Khalid Thomas were all named to the All-SWAC Second Team.

SWAC West Division winner Grambling State took back the most selections—14—while Southern earned the next most selections with 10 named to the teams. 

Baptiste was the Hornets most consistent man on the offensive line as he helped pave the way for Alabama State's top rushing attack in the conference. 

Berry ranked 10^th in the conference in tackles per game with 6.6 and racked up 66 tackles. 

Berry was also tied for fourth in forced fumbles with three and added two sacks. 

Street recorded 45 tackles, five tackles of a loss, forced three fumbles, had two sacks, one pass break up, one quarterback hit and recorded an interception.
Henderson ranked seventh in the SWAC in tackles for a loss with 12.5, an average of 1.14 per game. 

Thomas ranked second in the conference in rushing yards (1,237) and second in rushing yards per game (112.5 yards per contest) only behind Southern running back Leonard Tillery. 

Thomas also ranked tied for sixth in the SWAC in total touchdowns with 10 (nine rushing and one receiving).
