STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Alabama State women's basketball team played valiantly much of the first half on the road against the No. 5 team in the country, Mississippi State, before ultimately losing 90-47 on Tuesday night at Humphrey Coliseum.Â
The Lady Hornets (1-8) kept it close initially, trailing 15-14 after the first quarter of action, and nearly out shot the Lady Bulldogs in the opening half (41 percent to 40 percent shooting as a team).Â

Alabama State had three players reach double digits in scoring with
Daniele Ewert leading the way with 13 points followed by
Britney Wright (12 points) and
Damya Toney (11 points).

The Lady Hornets trailed 38-22 at the break, but Mississippi State turned it on after halftime by putting up 52 points in the second half.Â

Victoria Vivians scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs (13-0).
Next, Alabama State will play at LSU next Wednesday at 7 p.m.
