MONTGOMERY, AL – The Alabama State softball team saw a tough day of action on day two of the Black & Gold Tournament Saturday at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.

Game one: Nicholls 12, ASU 2 (6 innings)The Colonels were able to exact some revenge by bouncing back to defeat the Lady Hornets a day after ASU had knocked them off 6-2.

ASU had its sloppiest game of the season in the field as the team committed a season-worst seven errors.
Â
Charlene Castro (0-1) went six innings and allowed 12 runs, but only four of those runs were earned.Â
Â
Nicholls scored four runs in the first frame, causing the Lady Hornets to chase throughout the game.

Alexis Johnson and
Jenna Mae Thorne each had RBI singles in the second and third innings for ASU.
Â
Haley Parkerson batted 3-for-4 for the Colonels (8-3).

Johnson finished 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI for ASU.Â

Game two: Middle Tennessee 9, ASU 0 (6 innings)In the final game of the day, the Blue Raiders' Austyn Whaley hit a three-run home run to break it open in a three-run fifth inning.Â

The Lady Hornets didn't help themselves in the field as it committed four more errors for a total of 11 on the day.

Starting pitcher
Melissa Christmann (2-4) worked five and a third innings and allowed nine runs (five earned) and struck out four.Â
Â
Middle Tennessee starter Pattie Taylor (2-0) pitched six scoreless innings, did not walk a batter and struck out four.Â
Â
Thorne batted 2-for-3 with a double to raise her batting average to a team-best .406 on the season.Â
