MONTGOMERY, AL – Trailing 4-0, it did not deter the Alabama State softball team as the Lady Hornets stormed back for an 11-4 victory in game two of their hosted doubleheader with Tennessee State on Thursday at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
 
The rally began in a fiery third inning where Alabama State put together a five-run inning on five hits to take a 5-4 lead at the end of three.
 
ASU (8-15) tacked on three more runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to nearly run-rule the Tigers (6-15).
 
Charlene Castro had a career day, batting 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a walk and a career-best five RBI.
 
Jenna Mae Thorne continued her torrid start to the season as the senior went 3-for-4 with her second home run of the season to go along with three runs scored and two RBI.
 
Alexia Boggess and 
Valerie Centeno also had productive games as Boggess batted 2-for-3 with two runs, a double and a RBI while Centeno went 2-for-3 with a run, a double and a RBI. 
 
Melissa Christmann (3-5) worked five innings and allowed four runs on four hits and struck out three.
 
Game 1: Tennessee State 8, Alabama State 0 (6 innings)
Earlier in the day, the Lady Hornets had trouble hitting with runners on base as the team collected eight hits, but left eight runners stranded on base.
 
Thorne and 
Alexis Johnson both batted 2-for-3 to lead ASU. 
 
Maddie Phelps (5-6) pitched five innings and allowed five runs on 10 hits and struck out two.
 
Lauren Woodward (2-8) tossed six scoreless innings for the Tigers. 
 
Up next
The Lady Hornets will hit the road for a doubleheader with a trip to Nashville at Belmont on Saturday at 1 p.m.
