Hornets Lose To Florida A&M

Florida A&M pulled away from Alabama State 14-8 Wednesday at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.

Diandre Amion hit his first career homer and Dillon Cooper had three hits for the Hornets (10-9), who return to Southwestern Athletic Conference play Friday at 6 p.m. against Mississippi Valley State to open the weekend series.

After Florida A&M (12-5) scored two runs in the first, the Hornets scored in their first at-bat. Carlos Ocasio reached on a two-out error and scored on Cooper's double down the left field line to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Rattlers added two runs in the third before the Hornets answered in the home third, as Amion, who led off with a single, scored on a Cooper sacrifice fly to trim the Florida A&M to 4-2.

After FAMU scored four in the fourth and two in the fifth, the Hornets scored three in the fifth. Ocasio, walked, Cooper singled to left, and Chris Biocic was hit by pitch to load the bases. Ray Hernandez' single to right center scored Ocasio. Hunter Allen's RBI groundout scored Cooper, and Eriq White's infield single scored Biocic as the Hornets pulled to within 10-5.

Amion hit his first career homer to right field in the eighth, a two-run shot scoring Pagan who singled.

Amion, Pagan, Hernandez, and White each had two hits in the 12-hit attack for Alabama State, which will complete the nine-game homestand with games against Mississippi Valley State Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
