For the first time since the 2001-02 season, Alabama State women's basketball has been notched as the number one seed, in the conference.  Being the number one seed they get a chance to wait and see who their opponent will be between Ark. Pine Bluff and Alabama A&M on Wednesday, March 9 at 6 p.m. at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
 
"I'm kind of glad that we get a day to rest and wait and see who we will be playing tomorrow," said head coach Freda Freeman-Jackson.  "But at the same time I'm a little anxious to see if we will be playing Pine Bluff or A&M.  Both teams are very competitive although we have beaten them both twice.  When it comes to the tournament everybody is at 0-0.  There aren't any wins or losses at this point.  Everybody is after the crown."
 
Although the Lady Hornets are the number one seed, they still split the regular season title with Southern and Texas Southern with each team having the same conference record (14-4).
 
Alabama State will be led by the big three going into tomorrow's tourney.  Britney Wright in scoring averaging 14.5 ppg, Jasmine Peeples leads the team in rebounding (8.5 rpg) and blocked shots (63), Daniele Ewert is second on the team in scoring averaging 8.0 ppg.  She is the all-time single season leader in free throw percentage (.887), and she also leads the conference. 
 
"These three ladies are part of the key to us winning tomorrow," Freeman-Jackson stated.  "With this team it's a collective effort and we will need everybody to be a part no matter who we play."
