JACKSON, Miss. – The Alabama State baseball team rolled to a 15-4, seven-inning win at Jackson State in game two of the series at Braddy Field.
Carlos Ocasio hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs, Ray Hernandez and Dillon Cooper each drove in three runs, and Hernandez, Diandre Amion and Chris Biocic each had two hits for the Hornets (22-12 overall, 14-0 SWAC), who have won six in a row.
The tone was set in the first inning. Yamil Pagan started the game with a single to left center and scored on Diandre Amion's triple down the right field line for a 1-0 lead. With one out, Dillon Cooper singled to left field, scoring Amion for a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, Jackson State (17-14, 6-5) loaded the bases with two outs. Tyler Howe called off the jam by getting an inning-ending strikeout, one of six strikeouts in the game for Howe.
Leading 3-0 after four innings, the Hornets broke the game open with three in the fifth and seven runs in the sixth. Carlos Ocasio's three-run homer to left field in the fifth scored Oscar Prioleau and Amion for a 6-0 lead.
In the sixth, ASU scored four runs on just one hit, taking advantage of three walks, two hit batsmen, and one error. Ray Hernandez landed the decisive blow, a bases-clearing double down the left field line, to give the Hornets a 13-0 lead.
Howe (6-2) did not allow a hit until the sixth inning, allowing three hits and no runs in winning his sixth straight decision.
