DALLAS – At this week's 51st NACDA Convention there were plenty of friendships renewed, new ideas presented and awards to be handed out and the Alabama State University Football Program received one of those awards.
Â
The FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) announced the recipients of the Academic Progress Report (APR) sponsored by Forward Progress. Forward Progress is the industry leader in providing academic and APR-related consulting to NCAA institutions, conference and individual.
Â
Not only does the APR recognize one institution at each of the 13 FCS conferences with the highest APR, but it also recognizes the conference institutions that exhibit the largest improvement from the previous year. This year Alabama State has been named the recipient of that award.
Â
Alabama State has won the Most Improved Award from the FCS ADA for the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The APR of the ASU athletic programs has proudly been on display as has been the academic achievement of the Hornets student-athletes. This award comes on the heels of an announcement that over 200 of the ASU student-athletes achieved a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) with more than 30 of those with perfect 4.0 gpa's during the spring semester.
"We are excited about the progress that our football program has made over the last year," Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Director
Melvin Hines said. Â "My hat's off to Coach Jenkins and staff, compliance, academic counselors and the student-athletes for responding to the challenge of academic excellence."
