HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Britney Wright continued her dominant play in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action, leading Alabama State University to their fourth consecutive victory with a 52-37 win at Alabama A&M University Saturday.

Wright, who has scored in double figures 11 times this season, led Alabama State with 22 points which included a perfect night from the free-throw line. She finished the night 10-of-10 from the line, making a trip to the line as many times as the entire Alabama A&M (2-12, 0-5 SWAC) team. During conference play, Wright has scored in double digits in four of the five games thus far this season, including scoring 20-plus points in three of the last four.

She also added six rebounds in the win for the Lady Hornets, while Victoria Harvey added eight points and five rebounds off the bench.

Alabama State (5-12, 4-1, SWAC) finished the night shooting 29.8 percent (17-of-57) from the floor, which included just 21.4 percent (3-of-14) from beyond the arc. They were able to overcome the low percentages by shooting 93.8 percent (15-of-16) from the free-throw line, winning the rebounding battle (43-24) and forcing 16 Alabama A&M turnovers.

After Alabama A&M took an early lead at 3-2, the Lady Hornets took the game over in the first quarter as they went on a 9-0 to build an 11-3 lead with 6:11 remaining in the opening quarter. After a second Alabama A&M three-pointer with 5:02 remaining in the opening quarter, Alabama State went on a another run – this one 7-0 – to take an 18-6 lead with 2:06 remaining in the quarter. The team would hold the lead in the first quarter and take a 10-point lead into the second stanza.

The two teams combined for 21 points in the second and third quarters, but Alabama State pulled away in the fourth and held on for the victory. The Lady Hornets used a pair of runs in the fourth quarter, a 6-0 run early and an 8-0 run late to pull away from Alabama A&M for the win.

Alabama A&M was led by Hillary Williams with 11 points, the lone player in double figures on the night. As a team, Alabama A&M shot 34.1 percent (15-of-44) from the floor, which included 16.7 percent (2-of-12) from beyond the arc. They also shot just 50 percent (5-of-10) from the free-throw line.

Alabama State is off for a week, returning to action next Saturday against Alcorn State in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. Tip time is set for 3 pm next weekend.
