TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama State University women's tennis team fell 7-0 in their season opener against the University of Alabama at the Roberta Alison Baumgardener Tennis Center Sunday.
Alabama (2-0) took an early lead in the match by sweeping doubles play from Alabama State (0-1), gaining the first point of the match at number two doubles when the team of Andie Daniell and Danielle Spielman defeated the Lady Hornets' team of
Mirna Curcic and
Gabriela Lackova, 6-0.
Alabama State fell at number one doubles when the team of
Marine Cartier and
Reka Szentes fell 6-1, and at number three where the team of
Brankica Orlovic and
Marija Blazevic fell 6-2.
The Crimson Tide won all seven singles matches over Alabama State to complete the sweep of the match. After falling in doubles play, Lackova battled back in singles play as she pushed Smith Hinton at number three singles before falling 6-3, 6-3.
Alabama State return to action Friday on the road against Southern Mississippi.
