Lady Hornets fall to Georgia Southern

Alabama State picks up three victories on the day

STATESBORO, Ga. – Playing for the first time in two weeks, the Alabama State University women's team picked up a pair of points in their match against Georgia Southern before falling 5-2 Saturday afternoon.

Alabama State (0-2) fell behind early after dropping the doubles' point, but not before forcing a third and deciding match in doubles. After Georgia Southern claimed a 6-3 victory at number one doubles, the number three doubles team of Gabriela Lackova and Mirna Curcic forced a deciding match with a 6-3 victory of their own. Georgia Southern was able to win the point when the number two team of Giulia Riepe and Lindsay Truscott picked up a 6-3 victory.

The Lady Hornets picked up their two points in singles action, beginning with a straight set victory by Reka Szentes at number two singles. She picked up a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Truscott to even the overall match at 1-all. Although Georgia Southern clinched the match with three straight victories in singles play, Alabama State picked up another point at number three singles where Lackova defeated Arianne de Winter 6-4, 6-4.

Although the match was decided, the final match of day on the courts was the lone match to go three sets. At number one singles, Marine Cartier won the first set for the Lady Hornets 6-4 before dropping the second set 3-6 which forced a third set in which Georgia Southern's Riepe was able to win 11-9.
