Lady Hornets step out of conference play, hosts Alabama Thursday

Alabama State has won 11 consecutive matches entering the match

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University volleyball team will step out of conference play for the first time in nearly a month, hosting the University of Alabama at Lockhart Gymnasium Thursday night.
 
The match begins at 7 pm, and can be seen on the Hornet Sports Network.
 
Alabama State (16-7, 9-0 SWAC) enters the match on an 11-match win streak, which dates back to September 16 when the Lady Hornets defeated Northwestern State. They have also win 14 of their last 15 matches overall, with their last loss coming at the hands of Tulane on September 16. Although the match on Thursday is a non-conference match, the Lady Hornets have also won 30 consecutive conference matches dating back to last season with their last loss coming in the 2015 conference championship match.
 
Ni'yesha Brown, who leads the conference in kills and kills per set, recently recorded her 500th career kill to move into 18th place all-time at the school. Meanwhile, Briana Dorsey is currently seventh all-time at the school in kills with 729 and is sitting at fourth all-time at the school in blocks with 321.
 
A pair of setters continue to climb the career charts at Alabama State, as Kori Kutsch is now fifth all-time at the school with 1,688 career assists. Fellow setter, Justus Tuiolosega is 10th all-time at the school with 903. Kutsch is also ninth at the school in digs as she reached her 500th career dig against Jackson State, while Bayle' Bennett jumped into the 20 with 397 career digs.
 
Kutsch and Tuiolosega are also both in the top 20 in service aces for their career, with Kutsch at 12th (75) and Tuiolosega at 19th (69).
 
Through 23 matches, Alabama State finds itself in the top 25 in several categories in the country, including team service aces (13th). They are also 15th in team kills, 17th in total blocks, 21st in total attacks, and 24th in both opponent hitting percentage and team assists.
 
Alabama State will be looking for their first win against Alabama after 15 matches, and their first win over the Crimson Tide under head coach Penny Lucas-White after five matches.
