Lady Hornets host SWAC Roundup Friday through Sunday

Alabama State will host 25 matches over a three-day period

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University volleyball team will look to bounce back from back-to-back non-conference losses when they host the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Roundup beginning Friday on campus.

The event will feature 25 matches over a three-day period in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome and Lockhart Gymnasium, with the Lady Hornets playing their five matches inside Lockhart.

Alabama State (16-9, 9-0 SWAC) had their 11-match win streak snapped by the University of Alabama last Thursday, but have won 14 of their last 17 matches. They have also won their first nine conference matches of the season, running their consecutive streak to 30 dating back to the 2015 championship match.

In the first roundup, held at Texas Southern, the Lady Hornets finished with five consecutive victories and dropped just four sets in the five matches. Alabama State was pushed to five sets by Southern in the opener, before dropping a set each to Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Texas Southern.

The Lady Hornets will face the same schedule they did in Texas, as they will face Southern Friday afternoon at 3 pm, followed by Grambling State at 5:30 pm. They will then face Prairie View A&M at 10 am Saturday morning, before closing the day against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 7 pm. The roundup concludes on Sunday, with the Lady Hornets playing the first match of the day at 10 am against Texas Southern.

Alabama State is among the conference leaders in most major categories, and appear in the NCAA rankings in the top 50 seven times. The Lady Hornets are in the top 20 in kills, 21st in blocks, 28th in attacks, 31st in service aces, 33rd in assists, 38th in opponent hitting percentage and 50th in digs.

Admission is free to all home volleyball matches.
