Lady Hornets face South Carolina Friday night in opening round

The berth is the second consecutive for the Lady Hornets

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Two-time defending Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champion, Alabama State travels to the University of South Carolina Friday in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
 
The Lady Hornets earned their second consecutive bid to the field of 64 and will open with the number one seeded and third-ranked Gamecocks, as they will face the same opponent as last year in the Gamecocks.
 
In last year's game, the Gamecocks were able to come away with a 7-0 victory to advance to the second round.
 
Alabama State University (12-7-2) women's soccer team will travel to play No. 1-seed University of South Carolina (15-2-1) in the opening round of the NCAA tournament on Friday November 10.
 
Kickoff is set for 6 pm (est), and the match can be on the SEC Network+, using the WatchESPN app.
 
This season will mark the 11th appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the Gamecocks, who have reached the event in 10 of the last 11 years. South Carolina has hosted a first-round match in five of the last six years, advancing out of those games four times.
 
The Gamecocks recently had their 14 match unbeaten streak when they fell to Arkansas in the SEC quarterfinals. South Carolina had not lost a game since August 24 against Wake Forest (3-0).
 
Senior Ariela Lewis, the nation's active leading goal scorer, leads Alabama State with 12 goals this season which earned her Offensive Player of the Year honors in the SWAC and all-tournament honors. Fellow senior, Lexi Krieger – a Second Team All-SWAC performer and all-tournament honoree, has nine goals on the season and leads the team with 27 total points.
 
Gianna Guyot, the SWAC Goalkeeper of the Year and SWAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player, has recorded 126 saves this season to go along with five shutouts.
 
Tickets for Friday's match, which go on sale at South Carolina Tues., Nov. 7, at 10 a.m. ET, are $8 for adults and $5 for students and children (17 and under). Fans can call the Gamecocks ticket office at 803-777-4274 or order and print tickets online. Tickets will also be available on the day of the game at the gate, where only cash will be accepted.
