MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State hits the road for the first of three road games in the month of December, opening the month with a game against 12th-ranked and eight-time national champion, Tennessee, Sunday afternoon.

Alabama State (1-6) has been off since a 59-47 loss to South Alabama Tuesday afternoon, a game in which
Kenya Pye led the Lady Hornets with 11 points on 50 (5-of-10) percent shooting from the floor.
Jordyn Holmes added 10 in the loss to the Lady Jags.

Through seven games,
Shamyiah Smith leads Alabama State in scoring at 7.6 per game and has dished out 3.1 assists per game.
Tatyana Calhoun, a preseason all-conference selection, leads the Lady Hornets in rebounding at 5.8 per game and has blocked one shot per game on average thus far this season.

Holmes is averaging 6.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in six games, and has one career double-double, which came against Samford on the road earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Tennessee (7-0) comes into the contest on the heels of a 77-34 victory over Central Arkansas Thursday night. The Lady Vols have four players averaging in double figures, led by Mercedes Russell at 17.4 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.

Alabama State and Tennessee have met one time prior to Sunday's meeting, with the Lady Vols claimed a 95-43 victory over Alabama State in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament (3/22/03). The game marks the second game this season against a ranked SEC opponent as the Lady Hornets fell to South Carolina to open the season.
