CORAL GABLES, Fla. | Alabama State dropped a non-conference game to Miami (Fla.), 79-31, at the Watsco Center Friday night.

Keimeshia Walker led Alabama State (1-8) with 12 points in her debut for the Lady Hornets, attempting a game-high 19 shots from the floor and nine shots from beyond the arc. Although she was the lone player in double figures for Alabama State,
Aliyah Nelson came off the bench to grab a team-high seven rebounds, while
Areleatha Gipson recorded a game-high four steals.

The Lady Hornets closed the first quarter with back-to-back three-pointers by Walker to close the deficit to seven at 19-12, but Miami was able to use their size (outscoring Alabama State 24-2 in the paint) to take a 34-17 lead into intermission. The lead grew in the second half courtesy of a 15-1 run for the 'Canes.

Mykea Gray led Miami (7-3) with 18 points, while Erykah Davenport added 14 in the win. Emese Hof recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Shaneese Bailey grabbed 10 rebounds.

The Lady Hornets finished the night shooting 15.8 (9-of-57) percent from the floor and 15.8 (3-of-19) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 76.9 (10-of-13) percent from the free throw line, while Miami finished the night at 42.9 (33-of-77) percent from the floor and 23.8 (5-of-21) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 50 (8-of-16) percent from the free throw line.

Alabama State returns to action on the road Tuesday in Birmingham (Ala.) against UAB, with tip set for 6 pm.
