BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Keimeshia Walker scored in double figures in the second consecutive, but a big second quarter run by UAB proved too much for the Lady Hornets as they came up short 61-44 in a non-conference matchup Tuesday night at Bartow Arena.
 
Walker scored a team-high 13 points for Alabama State (1-9), while 
Tatyana Calhoun and 
Kenya Pye each scored eight each in the loss. 
Kayla Stephens grabbed six rebounds, while Calhoun grabbed five for Alabama State which finished the night shooting 33.3 (16-of-48) percent from the floor and 26.7 (4-of-15) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 66.7 (8-of-12) percent from the free throw line.
 
Meanwhile, Rachael Childress led UAB (9-2) with 15 points on 50 (5-of-10) percent shooting from the floor, while Imani Johnson added 14 points in the win. Kara Rawls led the Blazers with a game-high nine rebounds.
 
UAB ended the night shooting 42.0 (21-of-56) percent shooting from the floor and 31.8 (7-of-22) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 60.0 (12-of-20) percent from the free throw line, while winning the rebounding battle 37-32.
 
The Lady Hornets jumper out to an early 6-0 lead to start the game, but UAB was able to chip away for the remainder of the first quarter to take a 10-9 lead after the first stanza. The Lady Hornets were able to come back after UAB opened up a lead to pull within a basket, before Trista Magee hit three consecutive three-pointers to push the lead to 25-15 in favor of UAB at halftime.
 
UAB was able to pull away in the second half, although Alabama State went on a 12-5 run lead late with Calhoun scoring six of the 12 points during the run.
 
Alabama State returns home for the final non-conference game of the season Thursday afternoon, tipping off with Mobile at 2 pm inside the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
