MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A week after beating their in-state rival at home, the Alabama State University women's basketball team returns to action Saturday afternoon on the road against Alcorn State University, with tip set for 3 pm.
 
Alabama State (10-12, 9-3 SWAC), winners of three of their last four, find themselves in a tie for second place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) conference standings with Texas Southern – just percentage points behind Grambling State – after their 27-point victory over their in-state rival, Alabama A&M. In that contest, senior Britney Wright scored 28 points and grabbed 14 rebounds en route to a pair of individual awards.
 
Wright was named the College Madness Player of the Week for her performance against Alabama A&M, and was named the BOXTOROW National Player of the Week for her performance in the Lady Hornets' last two games. In the same game, Shamyiah Smith recorded her 200th assist of her career.
 
The meeting on Saturday with Alcorn State (8-16, 8-5 SWAC) will be the second of the season for the two teams, with Alabama State winning the first meeting 72-54 behind Wright and Daniele Ewert. The senior duo combined to score 46 points, including 21 of the Lady Hornets points in the fourth quarter.
 
Wright comes into the game as the leading scorer in the conference at just over 17 points per game, and is just 63 points away from becoming the second-leading scorer all-time at the school. Meanwhile, Ewert is averaging just over 10 points per game for the Lady Hornets who are in search of their third consecutive victory.
 
The game will be the first of two on the road this weekend for the Lady Hornets, who also travel to Southern on Monday night.
