INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Former Alabama State University football player
Khalid Thomas received postseason recognition on Tuesday from the NCAA.
Thomas, who completed his final season in 2016, was named the 2016-17 NCAA FCS statistical champion for Punt Return Average. Last season Thomas racked up 366 yards on 21 returns to lead all of FCS by averaging 17.4 yards a return. His total was nearly 3.0 yards better than Drake's Terry Wallen (14.8).
In his final season, Thomas led the team in five categories. He rushed for 170 yards on 24 touches, with one touchdown against Alabama A&M and finished with a team-high 171 yards on 17 carries, with a pair of scores, in a 53-20 Turkey Day Classic victory over Miles.
In punt returns, Thomas has a huge game during the Magic City Classic, returning three kicks for 115 yards, averaging 38.3 yards during the contest.
