MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State University women's tennis team continued their domination of conference opponents Saturday morning, beating the rain and Grambling State University 4-0 at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play.
Alabama State (10-7, 8-0 SWAC) won their third consecutive match in resounding fashion, finishing the match with impressive 6-0 scores in the second – and final set – of all three singles matches.
The Lady Hornets jumped ahead early by winning the doubles point when the teams of
Reka Szentes and
Marine Cartier defeated the number one team from Grambling State 6-2; while the number three team of
Mirna Curcic and
Gabriela Lackova won their match 6-0.
In singles play, Cartier and Lackova wrapped up their matches at nearly the same time – both walking off the courts with 6-0, 6-0 victories at number two and four respectively. Meanwhile, the match was clinched as Szentes dominated her opponent in the second set to win at number one 6-3, 6-0 over Grambling State's Tanyaradzwa Manguje.
Alabama State returns to action later today against Alabama A&M in their final conference match of the regular season, and the final home match. Prior to the match, the Lady Hornets will honor their two seniors – Cartier and
Brankica Orlovic.
