BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alabama State University women's tennis team looks to win their third Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship in school history, but first since 1999, as they earned the top seed for the upcoming championship tournament to be played at City Park/Pepsi Tennis Center in New Orleans this weekend.
Alabama State, who finished undefeated in the regular season during conference play, will need to win just two matches in two days to claim the championship.
The Lady Hornets will open the tournament on Saturday morning at 9 am against the winner of fourth-seeded Alcorn State, a 4-0 winner over Grambling State on Friday in the opening round. Alabama State defeated Alcorn State 4-0 in the SWAC Roundup earlier this season.
On the bottom half of the bracket, second-seeded Jackson State will face third-seeded Southern in the semifinals.
The championship match is set for 9 am on Sunday at City Park/Pepsi Tennis Center in New Orleans.
