Alabama State travels to Birmingham to face UAB Tuesday night

The Lady Hornets have won four of their last five matches

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University volleyball team will look to continue the momentum that started a week ago at home as they head to Birmingham to take on UAB Tuesday night in non-conference action.

The match is slated to start at 7 pm at Bartow Arena in downtown Birmingham.

Alabama State (6-7) has won four of their last five matches after stopping a five-match losing streak against Western Carolina back on September 9. Since that match, the Lady Hornets only loss has been to Tulane this past weekend on the home court of the Green Wave. In the four Lady Hornets' victories, the team has played a pair of five-set and a pair of four-set matches.

During the streak, senior Ni'yesha Brown - last week's SWAC Offensive Player of the Week – has led the Lady Hornets with 66 kills (3.14/set) and 44 digs (2.10/set). Senior Briana Dorsey has added 50 kills (2.38/set) and 30 total blocks (1.43/set) while Krysta Medearis has added 47 kills (2.24/set).

Kori Kutsch continues to lead Alabama State in assists and accumulated 122 (5.81/per set) during the streak, while Justus Tuiolosega added 81 (3.86/set). The duo combined for five of the six double-doubles recorded by Alabama State during the streak, with the other belonging to Brown.

Defensively, Asha Daniels – last week's SWAC Defensive Player of the Week – has led Alabama State with 96 digs (4.57/set) in the five matches, while Candace Martin added 17 blocks (0.95/set) and Payten Clark 17 (0.81/set) during the stretch.

They will be facing a UAB (6-8) team that has won three consecutive matches after dropping four straight the week prior. The Blazers enter the match after defeating Western Carolina on their home floor, 3-1, a place where they have won six of seven matches this season.

UAB has three players who are in triple digit kills, led by Gabby Deshotel (169) and Haley Jared (168); while Kenley Adams leads the team in assists (472).
