LORMAN, Miss.| Mya Millner was the lone player in double figures off the bench, as Alabama State fell to Alcorn State 73-41 at the Davey L. Whitney Complex in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action Monday night.
 
Alabama State (4-14, 2-5 SWAC) stayed as close as three through the first quarter and traded baskets with the Lady Braves in the second, before Alcorn was able to use their defensive pressure to pull away for 31-20 halftime lead. The Lady Hornets fought back in the second half, but key free throw shooting and pressure from the Lady Braves held Alabama State off down the stretch.
 
Milner led the Lady Hornets with 12 points and two steals, while hitting on 5-of-10 shots from the floor. 
Kayla Stephens recorded a career-high 11 rebounds.
 
The Lady Hornets shot 30.2 (16-of-53) percent from the floor, and 9.1 (1-of-11) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 47.1 (8-of-17) percent from the free throw line.
 
Meanwhile, Tia Sanders led Alcorn (9-10, 5-3 SWAC) with 23 points and five rebounds, on 9-of-15 shots from the floor. Alexus Freeman added 20 points, nine assists and six steals in the win.
 
Alcorn State shot 47.2 (25-of-53) percent from the floor, and 38.5 (5-of-13) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 62.1 (18-of-29) percent from the free throw line and forced the Lady Hornets into a season-high 34 turnovers.
 
Alabama State will return to action Saturday afternoon against Prairie View A&M in Dunn-Oliver Acadome. Tip is set for 3 pm and can be seen on the SWAC Digital Network, with pregame starting on the Hornet Sports Network at 2:45 pm.
