Lady Hornets fall in season opener to Mercer

Alabama State picks up pair of wins, one singles and one doubles

Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State dropped their season opener to Mercer, 6-1, at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center Friday afternoon; a match originally scheduled for Sunday but moved to due impending rain in the area.
 
Alabama State (0-1) dropped the doubles point, dropping matches at one and three, while winning at number three doubles when the team of Marija Blazevic and Mirna Curcic defeated the Mercer team of Marie Mottet and Christie Cesarini, 7-5.
 
Mercer was able to pull away for the win by winning number two through five singles, with the Lady Hornets' Marija Blazevic forcing her match to three sets before falling 6-4, 5-7. 5-10. Alabama State was able to pick up a win at number one singles when Reka Szentes defeated Mercer's Celine Schepers 6-4, 6-3.
 
Alabama State returns to action February 3 on the road at Southern Miss.
