MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns home Saturday afternoon, hosting Mississippi Valley State at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night.
The Lady Hornets are in search of their first conference victory of the season after back-to-back road losses, and return home for the first time since December 21.
Alabama State (2-11, 0-2 SWAC) fell to Grambling State, 93-71 in their last Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) matchup in which sophomore guards
Ziara Doe and
Keimeshia Walker led the Lady Hornets with 15 points each. Mya Milner added 12 points and
Tatyana Calhoun added 10.
Walker leads the Lady Hornets in scoring, averaging 10.6 points and 2.4 rebounds per game, while Calhoun is eighth in the conference in rebounding at 5.7 boards and third in blocks at 1.5 per game.
Mississippi Valley State (0-13, 0-1 SWAC) fell to Arkansas Pine-Bluff, 64-59, on New Year's Day in their only conference game to this point. LaKendra Bassett led the Devilettes with 18 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals. Kristy Parker leads the team in scoring at 15.1 points per game, while Bassett is averaging 14.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
Alabama State swept the season series last season, winning on the road in January and the Dunn-Oliver Acadome in February (71-57).
Tip is set for 3:00 pm, with pregame on the Hornet Sports Network beginning at 2:45 pm.
