@BamaStateWBB hosts South Carolina Sunday

Tipoff at 3 p.m.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University women's basketball team will play their second consecutive Southeastern Conference (SEC) foe this week when they face No. 10 South Carolina on Sunday afternoon at 3 pm.

Alabama State (0-1) enters the game following an 87-35 loss to Kentucky on Wednesday night. Freshman guard Ayana Emmanuel led the Lady Hornets with eight points, while Shmya Ward snagged eight rebounds.

South Carolina (0-0), who was predicted to finish second in the SEC, returns four starters and has added three freshman to the group this season.

The Gamecocks opened the season with a 100-62 exhibition victory over Lander on Nov. 2. Seven players scored in double figures, including redshirt junior Te'a Cooper, who led the Gamecocks with 20 points.

The two teams met last year when South Carolina hosted the Lady Hornets in their season opener. In that contest, center Victoria Harvey grabbed a team-high nine rebounds off the bench in a 99-31 loss.

The game tips off at 3 pm at Dunn-Oliver Acadome, with pregame on the Hornets Sports Network beginning at 2:45 pm.
