Ward records double-double as @BamaStateWBB falls at Georgia Tech

Alabama State travels to South Alabama Sunday

ATLANTA, Ga. | Alabama State fell to a Georgia Tech team that had four players in double figures, 69-42, Wednesday night in non-conference action at McCamish Pavilion. 
 
Shmya Ward posted a double-double to lead Alabama State (1-6), scoring 10 points and grabbing a career-high 15 rebounds. Ayana Emmanuel added seven points, while Kaeani Berry, Jayla Crawford and Courtney Lee each added five points.

The Lady Hornets shot 29.8 (14-of-47) percent from the floor for the game. They also shot 16.7 (2-of-12) percent from beyond the arc, but shot just 52.2 (12-of-23) percent from the free throw line.
 
Elizabeth Balogun led Georgia Tech (7-2) with 18 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals. She was joined in double figures by Chanin Scott with 14 points and Francesca Pan with 11 points and six rebounds. Lorela Cubaj added 10 points for Georgia Tech, who shot 35.1 (27-of-77) percent from the floor and 20.8 (5-of-24) percent from beyond the arc.
 
Georgia Tech also shot 47.6 (10-of-21) percent from the free throw line, while also winning the rebounding battle 53-38 and collected 30 points off of 26 Lady Hornets turnovers.

Alabama State struck first on a Tatyana Calhoun layup, but the Yellow Jackets outscored the Lady Hornets 17-9 in the first quarter and forced 17 turnovers in the first half to build a comfortable 39-19 lead going into the third quarter.   
 
The lead grew to as many as 34 in the second half with 4:47 left to play, but the Lady Hornets locked down Georgia Tech in the final minutes and ended the game on a 7-0 run.

Alabama State returns to action Sunday afternoon in Mobile (Ala.) against South Alabama with tip set for 1 pm.
