Alabama State hits the road for pair of games beginning Saturday

Lady Hornets look to finish season sweep of MVSU and UAPB

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | After splitting a pair of conference games at home, Alabama State hits the road for a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) matchups, starting with Mississippi Valley State on Saturday.
 
The game tips at 2 pm in Itta Bena (Miss.) and can be heard on the Hornet Sports Network, beginning at 1:45 pm.

Alabama State (5-15, 3-6 SWAC) comes into the game off of a 79-31 loss to Texas Southern on Monday night. Shamyiah Smith and Victoria Harvey led the Lady Hornets with six points each.
 
Keimeshia Walker leads Alabama State in scoring this season, averaging 9.0 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Tatyana Calhoun averages 8.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, and leads the conference with a 68.2 field goal percentage. As a team, they are second in the conference in defensive rebounding, averaging 34.7 per game.
 
Meanwhile, Kristy Parker leads Mississippi Valley (1-20, 1-8 SWAC) averaging 15.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, LaKendra Bassett is averaging 15.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. The Devilettes are coming off of a 64-62 loss to Grambling State in which Parker finished with 22 points.
 
Following the Saturday afternoon contest, Alabama State will remain on the road as they travel to Pine-Bluff (Ark.) to face the Lady Lions of Arkansas Pine-Bluff on Monday night.
 
UAPB (3-16, 1-8 SWAC) looks to bounce back after a 60-54 loss to Jackson State on Monday night. Faith Ohanta finished with a double-double in the loss with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and she leads the Lady Lions in scoring with 13.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
 
Alabama State won against both of these teams earlier this season, defeating MVSU 76-41 (January 6) and UAPB 63-54 (January 8).
 
Tip is set for 5:30 pm on Monday night, with the game being carried on the Hornet Sports Network beginning at 5:15 pm.
