TROY, Ala. | Alabama State defeated Tennessee State 5-4 in extra innings Saturday afternoon in their only game of the day as the remainder of the day was cancelled due to rain.

After Tennessee State (0-4) went scoreless in the top of the eighth inning, the Lady Hornets had their chance with
Kristin Gunter at second base to start due to the tiebreaker.
Charlene Castro grounded out to first for the first out of the inning, advancing to Gunter to third. She eventually scored on an infield single by
Amira James.

Tennessee State jumped on top of Alabama State (1-2) starter
Justine Jean with two runs in the first three innings to take a 2-0 lead. The Lady Hornets answered in the fourth with three runs of their own when Gunter led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a Castro single. After a walk to James,
Casey Durham drove in a pair to tie the score at 2-all, before James scored to end the inning.

Vanessa Bradford (1-1) entered the game in the sixth inning and got credit for the victory after going 2.2 innings and did not allow a baserunner.

Castro ended the day with a pair of hits, giving her five for the weekend, while Durham and James each picked up a pair of hits.

Alabama State returns to action next weekend as they host the Black and Gold Tournament beginning Friday.
