MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State used a four-run fourth inning to run past Appalachian State 10-4 in their home opener Friday night at the Barbara Williams Complex.
The bottom of the order provided six of the seven hits for the Lady Hornets with
Hatty Shope, Aimee Felicies and
Taylor Rosser each collecting a pair of hits in the victory. The trio also scored five of the 10 Alabama State runs. While Rosser finished the night with three runs batted in.
Alabama State (2-2) found themselves
was down early against Appalachian State (1-5) in the first two innings of the game, as the visitors put four on the board in the second for a 4-0 lead.
Taylor Rosser drove in the game's first run on a groundout to short that scored
Kaitlyn Kilner to trim the deficit to 4-1 through the first two innings.
Appalachian State was held scoreless the remainder of the game, as Alabama State pushed the lead 6-4 with a four-run fourth inning highlighted by an RBI triple from Rosser that scored Felicies.
Alabama State added two more runs in the fifth and another in the sixth for the final margin of victory, highlighted by an RBI double off the bat of Rosser.
Vanessa Bradford (2-1) came out of the bullpen to go six innings and allowed just one run off of five hits, while striking out six.
The Lady Hornets will be back in action Saturday with two games beginning at 2:30 against Fort Wayne, and then again at 7:30 pm against Appalachian State.
