Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. | Alabama State picked up their first win of the season, defeating Tennessee State 5-2 on the road Sunday afternoon.
Alabama State (1-3) made quick work of the Tigers after winning the doubles point with wins at number one and two. The team of
Lea Krajcovicova and
Gabriela Lackova defeated Tennessee State's team Morgan Cage and Phoenix Gandy at number one; before the team of
Reka Szentes and
Mirna Curcic picked up a 6-2 victory to take a 1-0 overall lead.
The Lady Hornets increased their lead to 3-0 when Szentes picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at number one singles over Ani Popiashvili; before
Chloe Kabamba picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Morgan Cage at number two.
Curcic clinched the match at number four to secure the win for the Lady Hornets, picking up a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Ashia Jones. Although the match was clinched, Krajcovicova picked up a 6-4, 6-3 victory at number five singles.
Alabama State returns to action Saturday morning against Jacksonville State, with the match scheduled to start at 11 am at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.
