HATTIESBURG, Miss. | Alabama State dropped their first of 16 straight road games Wednesday night, falling to Southern Miss 8-0 on the road in non-conference action.
Southern Miss was able to jump ahead early with a pair of runs in the first, before adding three more in the third which proved to be an insurmountable lead. The Golden Eagles added one in the fourth, before picking up two more in the fifth for the final margin.
Skylar Sullivan suffered the loss, pitching a complete game (4.2 innings) and allowed eight runs – six earned – off of seven hits. She also struck out four.

Kristin Gunter picked up the Lady Hornets' two hits on the night.
The Lady Hornets will be back in action Friday against UT-Martin in Chattanooga (Tenn.) as part of the UTC tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 10 am.
