HOUSTON, Texas | Shamyiah Smith matched her career-high for Alabama State, but it wasn't enough to overcome the hot-shooting of Texas Southern as the Lady Hornets fell 76-48 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action at the H&PE Arena Monday night.
 
Smith led Alabama State (8-19, 6-10 SWAC) with 14 points on 3-of-7 shooting from the floor and knocked down 7-of-8 shots from the charity stripe. Meanwhile, 
Courtney Lee finished with seven points, six rebounds and two steals.
 
Ziara Doe and 
Victoria Harvey each chipped in six points off the bench for the Lady Hornets who shot 23.4 (11-of-47) percent from the floor and 7.7 (1-of-14) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 71.4 (25-of-35) percent from the free throw line.
Meanwhile, Joyce Kennerson led Texas Southern (17-10, 12-4 SWAC) with 28 points, while Kaitlyn Palmer added 16 on four three-pointers.
 
Texas Southern shot 37.3 (22-of-59) percent from the floor and 31.6 (6-of-19) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 70.3 (26-of-37) percent from the free throw line.
 
Alabama State returns to action Thursday at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome against Jackson State. Tip is set for 5:30 pm with pregame on the Hornet Sports Network beginning at 5:15 pm.
