MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State tennis programs will play a pair of opponents in different venues Sunday, with the women hosting Chattanooga Sunday morning and the men traveling to Auburn Sunday afternoon.
The Alabama State (10-5, 8-0 SWAC) women will host Chattanooga Sunday morning at 11 am at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center in the first match of the day. The Lady Hornets enter the match on a seven-match winning streak, and have won nine of their last 10 matches.
Lea Krajcovicova leads Alabama State in singles play, as she has gone 10-1 in their matches thus far this season – including a perfect record in conference play. She is unblemished at numbers four (3-0) and five (7-0) this season, with her only loss coming at number two singles.
Reka Szentes is 7-2 this season, with all nine of her matches coming at number one singles; while the team has racked up a 48-26 overall singles record.
They will be facing a Chattanooga (6-5) team that has lost four of their six matches, including a 6-2 decision to Samford Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Alabama State (10-7, 6-0 SWAC) will hit the road to face Auburn in a 4:30 pm match – the Tigers second match of the day as they will face Vanderbilt earlier in the day. The Hornets enter the match with Auburn having won six straight, and eight of their last nine matches this season. Their lone loss in the streak was a loss to Kennesaw State back on March 3.
Chris Andre leads Alabama State with an 8-2 record on the season, including a perfect 5-0 in conference play. He suffered a loss at number four singles and another at number five singles, while going 5-1 at number five.
Ion Efrim is 8-3 with all 11 matches he has played coming at number one singles.
The doubles team of
Tomas Fernandez and
Carl-Louis Luckmann have the best record in doubles play for the Hornets, as they have gone 7-3 on the season; including 5-3 at number three.
