MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State finished off their sweep of Mississippi Valley State in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action Saturday, winning game one 9-4 to claim the series and followed that up with an 8-0 run-rule victory in game two to complete the sweep at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
Game One- Alabama State 9, Mississippi Valley State 4
Alabama State used a pair of big innings to pull away for a game on victory that clinched the series for the Lady Hornets, their second consecutive series win in conference play. Alabama State was able to get four runs on the board in the first inning to build a lead, then another four in the fourth to extend the lead.

Charlene Castro to score
Kaylee Davis and Casey Durham, before
Vanessa Bradford added an RBI groundout. The scoring in the inning ended with
Amira James doubling down the left field line for the 4-0 lead.
After Mississippi Valley State scored a pair of runs to trim the lead to 4-2, the Lady Hornets added four in the fourth on a two-run single by Kristin Gunter and a two-run triple from James. The Lady Hornets added their final run in the fifth on an infield error by Mississippi Valley State.
Durham and Davis each finished the opener with three hits, while Castro earned the win on the mound as she worked 5.1 innings and allowed three runs while scattering nine hits.
Game Two- Alabama State 8, Mississippi Valley State 0 (6 innings)
Alabama State used big innings in the fourth and the sixth inning to end the second game of the doubleheader in walk-off fashion, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth for the victory.
Aimee Felices scored the first run of the final inning on a sacrifice fly by Durham, before Makayla Burt picked up an RBI on a bases loaded walk. James ended the contest with a single to center to score Bradford.
Prior to the sixth inning, the Lady Hornets put four on the board in the fourth inning which started with a two-run double by Durham that scored Hatty Shope and Skyler Sullivan to put Alabama State up 3-0. Gunter finished off the scoring in the inning on a two-run home run that scored Durham for a 5-0 lead.
Durham, Davis and Gunter each added a pair of hits in the second game of the doubleheader; while Sullivan earned the win with a complete game effort. She finished with six innings pitched and allowed just four hits and struck out five.
Alabama State returns to action next weekend as the take on rival Alabama A&M in Huntsville for a three-game series, beginning Friday at 3 pm.
