Justine Jean recorded a career-high in strikeouts to lead Alabama State to a sweep of South Carolina State on the road Wednesday afternoon.
Game One: Alabama State 7, South Carolina State 0
Alabama State used a pair of three-run innings to take game one in a shutout. A pair of doubles from
Jordan Amerson and
Casey Durham plated the first three runs of the game as
Amira James and
Hatty Shope came around to score – as well as Amerson.
Kristin Gunter tripled in the contest, later scoring on a sacrifice, before Aimee Felicies and Amerson doubled to push home the final three runs of the game.
Game Two: Alabama State 6, South Carolina State 3
In game two, Alabama State pulled away in the final two innings after South Carolina State had tied the game at 3-all. Gunter scored on a wild pitch to give Alabama State a 4-3 lea, before Shope sealed the game with a home run.
Earlier in the contest,
Vanessa Bradford doubled and Gunter came around to score on the hit and an errant throw; before
Marina Clark tripled and scored on a passed ball. South Carolina State scored their three runs in two innings, using extra base hits to pull away.
Jean worked seven innings in the opener, recording a career-high 13 strikeouts while scattering four hits. Meanwhile,
Skyler Sullivan went 4.2 innings in the nightcap, recording three strikeouts and scattering five hits.
Alabama State will be back on the road this weekend as they take on Alcorn State in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series beginning Friday.
