Lady Hornets into championship match with semifinal victory

Alabama State looks to defend its 2017 conference championship Sunday

NEW ORLEANS, La. | Top-seeded Alabama State made quick work of their semifinal match, knocking off Jackson State, 4-1 at the Hilton Riverside Indoor Tennis Courts to advance to Sunday's championship match.
 
Alabama State (12-8) picked up the first point of the match as they won two out of three doubles matches. The Lady Hornets picked up a 6-4 victory at number three behind the All-Conference team of Marija Blazevic and Mirna Curcic, and a 6-2 win at number two behind Lea Krajcovicova and Gabriela Lackova.
 
The Lady Hornets carried the 1-0 lead into singles play where they won three singles matches, while they were leading in the two matches that were unfinished.
 
Lackova won her match at number three singles over Jackson State's Oni Jones 7-6, 6-1, while Krajcovicova claimed a 6-4, 6-3 victory at number four. Meanwhile, Curcic won her match at number five over Ariel Dickson 6-4, 6-4 to secure the victory for Alabama State.
 
The Lady Hornets advance to Sunday's championship match to face fifth-seeded Alcorn State, who defeated second-seeded Prairie View A&M 4-3 Saturday night.
 
The championship match is set for 9 am at the Pepsi Tennis Center.
