MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University women's soccer team had its home opener spoiled on Friday night as Samford scored a single goal in the first half to win 1-0 at the ASU Soccer Complex.
"Overall, I am pleased," Alabama State head coach
Jodie Smith said. "We had to really extend and work hard, so I am pleased with our defense, but we have to get more going offensively."
Samford (1-2-0) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute of action as an Allie Lourie corner kick from the left side found the foot of Erin Bonner for a goal.
Following the score, Alabama State (0-3-0) was able to hold the Bulldogs' offense as goalkeeper
Gianna Guyot finished with 12 saves in the contest.
Alabama State gets a few days to rest as the Lady Hornets prepare for Presbyterian on Friday in Clinton, SC. Kickoff is set for 7 pm.
