Montgomery, Ala. | Alabama State returns to the friendly confines of Lockhart Gymnasium Tuesday night for a match with Troy at 7 pm. The contest serves as a final pre-conference tune-up before Southwestern Athletic Conference action gets underway this weekend in Baton Rouge, La.
Alabama State ranks near the top of the Southwestern Athletic Conference in numerous statistical categories. The Lady Hornets rank third in digs (620), second in service aces (55), second in total blocks (80.5), second in kills (511), second in total assists (472) and second in total kills (511).
Kori Kutsch ranks first in the SWAC in total assists (387) and assists per set (7.30) and now has 2,445 career assists. Middle Blocker
Candace Martin ranks second in the conference with 0.87 blocks per set and is third in the league with a .205 attack percentage. Libero
Kayla Torres ranks second in the conference with 141 digs (2.94 digs per set).
Troy and Alabama State last met in 2017, with the Trojans emerging victoriously, 3-0 (15-25, 19-25, 21-25).
Krysta Medearis and
Bayle' Bennett each recorded six kills,
Candace Martin had five blocks,
Kayla Torres posted eight digs and
Kori Kutsch had 16 assists.
The Trojans are led by Cheyenne Hayes, who has tallied 174 kills and 18 service aces this season. She also leads the Trojans with 3.70 kills per set. Jenni Young is second on the team with 109 kills and Amara Anderson has tallied 513 assists (10.91 per set). Lacey Jeffcoat leads Troy with 161 digs (3.43 per set) while Savannah Moore leads all defenders with 41 blocks.
