Montgomery, Ala. | Following one set of Tuesday night's home match, Alabama State and UAB appeared primed for a competitive five-set thriller.

The Lady Hornets (3-5) were on the cusp of securing an opening frame victory, holding a 24-21 advantage. The Blazers (6-2), however, closed the set on a 6-1 run and took the opening set, 27-25.

Alabama State was unable to overcome the lost opportunity and dropped the next two sets 16-25 and 13-25.

Collectively, The Lady Hornets had three players record three blocks. Junior Taira Cottingham paced the offense with 11 kills (11.5 points) and connected at an efficient .250 clip. Fellow classmate Krysta Medearis notched six kills, seven digs and two blocks while Kori Kutsch had a game-high 25 assists.

Alabama State treks west this weekend to Greeley, Colo. for the Hampton Inn and Suites UNC Classic, hosted by Northern Colorado. The Lady Hornets first game of the tournament is Friday, September 7 at 10 am against Pacific.
