@BamaStateTennis picks up home win over Point

Hornets win five of six singles to pick up victory

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State used five singles victories to pick up their first win of the season, 5-2 over Point, at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center Friday afternoon.

Alabama State (1-2) fell behind early after dropping the doubles point, but stormed back to pick up their first win of the season. The Hornets don't have long to celebrate as they travel to Birmingham to face Samford Saturday.

INSIDE DOUBLES PLAY
Alabama State picked up the first win in doubles play with the number two team of Carl-Louis Luckmann and Tomas Fernandez winning easily, 6-1; before Point tied the match with a win at number three doubles of Frederico Barbon and Sam Blackburn picked up a 6-1 victory.

All attention turned to the number one court, where the two teams were tied at 5-all before Point was able to pull away with the final points of the match to pick up a 7-5 victory and take the singles point.

INSIDE SINGLES PLAY
Trailing 1-0 in the overall match, Alabama State worked quickly and picked up five singles victories to win the overall match – winning at numbers two through six.

Fernandez picked up his second singles win of the season, defeating Joe Klokow at number three singles 6-3, 6-3; while Ion Efrim completed his first match of the season in singles play and won 6-2, 6-1 at number two singles.

Last year's Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Player of the Year, Chris Andre, and Alejo Calvis won at numbers six and five respectively; while Alexis Collard picked up a win at number four singles.

UP NEXT
Alabama State hits the road Saturday to face Samford with the match beginning at 1 pm in Birmingham. The Hornets return home the final day of the month (January 31) to face West Alabama.
