Montgomery, Ala. – Alabama State hits the road to face Jackson State in Southwestern Athletic Conference volleyball action on Sunday at 4 p.m.

The Lady Hornets are coming off back-to-back dominating 3-0 wins over Alcorn State and Mississippi Valley State on Sunday and Monday, respectively to improve to 6-16 overall and 3-4 in SWAC play. In conference play, Alabama State is currently on a three-game winning streak including winning nine straight sets.

In the last contest against Mississippi Valley State, the Lady Hornets dominated the entire match as they hit .382 while limiting the Devilettes to a .000 hitting percentage, forcing 20 errors. Junior
E'laisah Young led the way with a season- and game-high 14 kills with a season-high .600 hitting percentage alongside two blocks and six digs.

Madison Beasley and
Emersen Belles paced the offense and defense, respectively with a game-high 25 assists and team-high 10 digs. Beasley added a season-best four service aces while junior
McKenzie Boland tied her career-high with four service aces as well.

Bayle' Bennett leads the way with 243 total kills averaging 3.00 per set alongside the second-most digs on the team with 214 (2.64/set) and a team-high 23 service aces. Fellow senior
Krysta Medearis follows behind with 173 kills on a .263 hitting percentage with the third-most blocks on the team at 33.

Young poses as an all-around threat as she has 142 kills with a blistering .327 hitting percentage, 11 service aces, 45 digs and a team-high 53 blocks including 12 solos. Defensively, Belles leads the team with 272 digs (3.35/set) while Beasley paces the offense with 454 assists (5.68/set).

SWAC Weekly Honors
For the second time this season, Alabama State has swept all four of the Southwestern Athletic Conference volleyball weekly awards as announced by the league office on Tuesday evening.

Scouting Jackson State
Jackson State is coming off a convincing 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-17) over in-state rival Alcorn State on Thursday afternoon to improve to 9-13, 5-1 SWAC on the season. The win marked the Tigers' sixth victory in their last seven games.

In the match, Jylen Whitten (12) and Camry Dabney (10) were the only two players to record double-digit kills. Whitten added 10 digs to her stat line while Alana Washington posted a game-high 11 digs. Damassy Thompson paced the offense to a .234 hitting percentage with a game-high 19 assists.

On the season, Whitten leads the team in kills with 248 averaging 3.26 per set. Whitten's kills are 120 more than the next highest on the team (Camry Dabney). Whitten also leads the team with 16 service aces while Washington is a close second totaling 15.

Washington paces the defense with 326 digs (4.47/set) and Marina Bianchi Brito leads the team in blocks with 47 including 11 solos.

In the last meeting between the teams, Alabama State used a dominant defense to cruise past Jackson State, 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-13) in Jackson, Miss., on Nov. 5, 2018.
